Paterson Middle School

Paterson, New Jersey

This project began as a public park separated from the elementary school by a short road which ran parallel to the front of the school for the entire length of the building. The school had no play area and no place to gather in an emergency, other than the surrounding roads. The road was vacated and added to the school’s property which allowed it to connect to the park and make a complete playground and area of refuge. The neighborhood is allowed in the park when the school day is done. There is a large area for running, playground ball games, play equipment, a seat wall and lots of shade.
